CLASSIFICATION

Contents: hierarhiline klassifikatsioon

Description: Fossiilide puhul on selleks taksonoomiline hierarhia (riik, hõimkond, klass jne.). Iga objekt tabelis SPECIMEN peab olema klassifitseeritud vähemalt kõige kõrgemal tasemel, so. eristatud kas tegemist on eluta (mineraali/sette/kivimi) või eluslooduse objektiga (fossiiliga). Soovitavalt esitab iga spetsialist tema uuritava grupi üldtunnustatud (kõige laiemalt tunnustatud) hierarhia, mille detailsus võib ulatuda kuni alamsugukonnani. Hierarhiline süsteem tagab hiljem võimaluse detailsete päringute tegemiseks, ning ühtlasi ei nõua iga objekti juures kõigi hierarhia tasemete äranäitamist. Hierarhia kirjeldatakse parent-child suhte kaudu - igal üksusel, va. hierarhia kõrgeim üksus, on 'ülemus'. Eri rühmade hierarhiliste tasemete valik võib olla erinev (st. kui brahhiopoodeide hierarhia võib sisaldada ülem- ja alamseltsi ning ülem- ja alamsugukonna tasemeid, siis polüheetide süsteem võib piirduda vaid seltsi ja sugukonna taseme kasutamisega).
